PROJECT 1 - PRECEDENT STUDY AND COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

This project focuses on investigating historical works to enrich student proficiency in architectural language, design and ideas. In a group of 5, we are required to conduct precedent study analysis on specific building through on-line forum discussion, sketch analysis journal, verbal and board presentations. This precedent study analysis project clarifies the questions of “why” the case study is historically, culturally and architecturally importance; and “how” the design concepts derived from the case study can be developed and expanded to be creatively and innovatively integrated into prospect design project. My group members and I were required to conduct precedent study analysis on a building which is related to Renaissance, Royal Selangor Club (RSC).

Through this research analysis project, I am now able to analysis a historical building which document the intentions, concepts, patterns, disciplines, architectural language and contextual relationships. I also learned about the graphically development, expansion and elaboration which develops the critics' skill in analysis a building. Besides, I also learnt that team work and communication between each other are very important in order to exchange views, share and debate the knowledge from the precedent studies. Through the in-depth analysis of the building, I also learned how to reflect the analyses to my journal and presentation board through some illustrative and abstractive diagrams, drawings and annotations.
